General English at Lexis English is our most flexible and popular course, designed to help you build confidence and fluency in everyday English. English Test prep elective classes
The IELTS Preparation course at Lexis English is designed to help you prepare for the internationally recognised International English Language Testing System examination, which is one of the world's most recognised English language tests for higher education and migration.
This course is perfect if you're planning to study at university in Australia, applying for migration, or simply want to achieve a globally recognised qualification that demonstrates your English proficiency. IELTS is jointly managed by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, the British Council, and IDP Education, and the results are accepted by most English-speaking academic institutions worldwide.
When you study IELTS Preparation at Lexis, you'll be taught by dedicated and experienced IELTS teachers who focus on improving your reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and listening skills. The course includes practice tests using past papers with detailed answer guides and comprehensive teacher feedback, which helps you understand exactly what to expect on exam day and how to maximise your score.
The course is available at all our campuses including Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Sydney, and Perth. You can start any Monday, and the recommended duration is typically around 12 weeks, though you can study from one week upwards. The entry level is flexible, as we'll work with your current English ability to help you improve.

A1 (Beginner):
Speaking & Listening: Basic greetings, introductions, asking for and giving simple information, understanding simple directions and instructions.
Reading & Writing: Reading and writing very short, simple texts like postcards, personal details on forms, and simple descriptions.
Grammar: Basic sentence structure, present simple and continuous tenses, basic articles, prepositions of place and time.
A2 (Elementary):
Speaking & Listening: Communicating in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar matters.
Reading & Writing: Reading short, simple texts like advertisements, prospectuses, menus, and timetables. Writing short, simple notes and messages.
Grammar: Past simple and continuous tenses, future with "going to," simple modal verbs (can, must, should), comparatives and superlatives.
B1 (Intermediate):
Speaking & Listening: Dealing with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Entering unprepared into conversation on topics that are familiar, of personal interest, or pertinent to everyday life.
Reading & Writing: Understanding texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or job-related language. Writing simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
Grammar: Present perfect simple and continuous, past perfect, future forms, conditionals (first and second), passive voice.
B2 (Upper-Intermediate):
Speaking & Listening: Interacting with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.
Reading & Writing: Understanding the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialization. Producing clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects.
Grammar: More complex conditionals (third and mixed), reported speech, relative clauses, modal verbs for deduction and speculation, gerunds and infinitives.
C1 (Advanced):
Speaking & Listening: Expressing ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Using language flexibly and effectively for social, academic, and professional purposes.
Reading & Writing: Understanding a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognizing implicit meaning. Producing clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects.
Grammar: Advanced grammar structures, nuanced use of vocabulary, inversion, cleft sentences, advanced cohesive devices.
C2 (Proficiency):
Speaking & Listening: Expressing oneself spontaneously, very fluently, and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more complex situations.
Reading & Writing: Understanding with ease virtually everything heard or read. Summarizing information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation.
