Beginner

Not eligible to enroll directly. Students must first enroll in the General English course, which is available for all levels, including beginner (A1). They will focus on core language development to progress step-by-step.
Once a student reaches the necessary minimum level (Completed Lower Intermediate/B1), they can transfer into the "English Plus Academic Skills course."

Intermediate

The minimum entry level required for the English Plus Academic Skills course is Completed Lower Intermediate (B1) and higher.
Students receive 20 lessons of General English per week plus one or two Academic Skills electives.
At this level, students begin to develop essential skills needed for academia, such as academic writing, presentations, and critical thinking. Specific electives include "Academic Listening and Note-Taking Strategies," "Speaking with Impact: Presentations and Classroom Communication," and "Writing Essays"

Advanced

Students continue with the core General English component and deepen their focus through the one or two Academic Skills electives.
Students at advanced levels utilize the Academic Skills electives to excel in higher education. These skills are essential for university success, and advanced students may be aiming toward meeting English entry requirements for partnered institutions. The Academic Skills training provides students with strong English proficiency needed for higher education goals

The English Plus Career Development Skills (CD) course is designed to boost your English for the workplace and help you gain the professional skills necessary to stand out in your career.

This specialized program combines general English language improvement with targeted professional training. The course typically includes 20 lessons of General English per week plus one or two specialized electives focused on career development skills. The primary aim is to improve English for career advancement or internships, develop professional communication and workplace skills, and enable students to communicate confidently at work.

Access to Career Development Course: Not eligible to enroll directly.
Students must first enroll in the regular General English course. They will focus entirely on core language skills (speaking, grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing) until they reach the required entry level.
Once the student achieves the necessary level, they may transfer into the English Plus Career Development Skills course.

Intermediate

The minimum requirement to enter the Career Development Skills course is Completed Lower Intermediate (B1) and higher.
Students receive 20 lessons of General English per week plus one or two specialized electives focused on career topics.
At this level, students utilize their improving General English fluency to integrate practical workplace skills. Electives cover topics such as business communication, job interview strategies, and presentation skills. The goal is to gain the professional communication and workplace skills necessary to communicate confidently at work

Homestay is a great option for students who want to practise English every day in a local home environment. CEL San Diego homestays include single or double rooms, breakfast or breakfast and dinner, and are usually 30–75 minutes by bus from school (premium homestay has a shorter commute). It is a good choice for students looking for cultural immersion and extra support while settling in.

Shared Apartments – from $290 per week (+ Placement fee $100)

CEL offers shared apartment options for different budgets, including Standard, Premium, and Superior. These are self-catering apartments with single or twin rooms, designed for students who want a more independent and social lifestyle while living with other international students. Depending on the option, apartments may include features such as shared or private bathrooms, pool, jacuzzi, BBQ area, fitness room, and a location within walking distance or a short bus ride to school.
